Amariah Was born in North Carolina on July 4,
1823 and lived there for 10 years. |
|

|
|
|
|
At 10 years of age Amariah Swanner was of course
still living with his parents, but they moved to Pike County, Alabama. |
|
He lived there until 1847, which was when he
married Margaret. |
|
|
|
|
Amariah was in the 17th Regiment and
was in the infantry. The 17th Regiment was organized at
Montgomery, Alabama in August, 1861. Amariah was also in Companies B &
K. |
|
|
|
|
The Regiment had 900 men and moved to Pensacola,
then in March, 1862, it was sent to West Tennessee and got assigned to J.K.
Jackson’s Brigade. |
|
|
|
|
|
Amariah was in the Battle of Bentonville and
still served under General Cantey at this time. This battle was active from
March 19-21, 1865. |
|
|
|
|
Amariah also took place in the Battle of Shiloh.
The regiment reported 125 casualties. The result was a Union victory. |
|
The date was April 6-7, 1862. |
|
|
|
|
This was one of the last battles Amariah was in.
Peachtree Creek had 130 casualties. This battle also resulted in a Union
victory. |

|
|
|
Amariah took place in Franklin and Nashville.
Two-thirds were captured at Franklin and numbers were also captured at
Nashville. Amariah was not captured that I know of. |

|
|
Colonel Officers: J.P. Jones, Virgil S. Murphey,
and Thomas H. Watts; Lieutenant Colonels Robert C. Fariss, Edward P.
Holcombe, and John Ryan; and the Majors Thomas J. Burnett and S.A. Moreno. |

Amariah Swanner died at ExRay in October 1906.
He died at the age of thirty-nine years of age and stood five feet eleven. |
