- John Was Born in Giles, Tennessee in October 18, 1844. He moved to
Texas in 1869 , settling in Lamar
county. In 1874 he moved to the
Hannibal community.

- The 9th Tennessee Cavalry was organized on September 1, 1862
By Colonel James D. Bennett and Lt. William W. Ward.

- September 8th the Cavalry had 200 men strong. The report
stated by August 31st was a fragment of the division escaped,
captured or walked all the way to Georgia and was resigned.

- During December 1862 the regiment contained about 400 effectives and on May 3,1865 there
were 22 officers and 281 men
present.

- 9/18/63 their cavalry fought in the Battle of Chickamauga. With a
victory of the confederates.

- John fought in the Battle of Chickamauga in September 18, 63.
- The battle was one of the top 10 list for worst battle ever.

- John also fought in Parker’s Cross Roads, Thompson’s Station, and
Brentwood.

- On December 1, 1963 John was capture and taken to Bainbridge Ferry in
Alabama.
- John was release when the war was over.

- Mr. Moring married to Miss
Katherine Jenkins December 14, 1870. For 60 years they lived a faithful
and devoted life.

- At the age of 93 John died in his son’s house, Silas Moring. John had 43
grandchildren when he died.
